Filters

As of July 1, 2000, all newly installed septic tanks shall have an effluent filter placed at the outlet. The purpose of the filter is to trap suspended solids that are not heavy enough or have not had enough time to sink to the bottom of the tank. This occurs frequently when a tank hasn’t been pumped in a timely manner and contains a significant amount of material that reduces its effective volume. Filters must be periodically cleaned so that they do not plug which will cause the water level to rise in the septic tank and cause a back up into the house.
